What is travel insurance?
Insurance of personnel travels means the insurer's assistance - medical, transportation or other practical assistance to the insured person, if during a business travel outside the Republic of Latvia (or the country of residence, if it is a different country) there occurs a sudden illness or accident, if emergency surgery is required, if the flight is delayed, or the luggage is lost after an air flight, or if any other incident occurs which is beyond the insured person’s control and not only changes the travel plans, but also creates unforeseen additional costs.
For what period of time travel insurance for employees can be taken out?
Depending on the planned length of travel to foreign countries, JSIC „Seesam Latvia” offers a number of insurance options:
Short-term travel insurance is intended for individual short-term travels to foreign countries, when the duration of the travel does not exceed 45 consecutive days. For such travels, depending on the travel destination and transport used for travelling, you may select one of 5 various insurance programs, which include different insurance covers – insured risks, maximum insurance amounts and, respectively, different insurance premiums which may vary from EUR 0.65 to EUR 10.00 for one travel day. If several persons are included in the insurance policy, a group discount is applied to the insurance premium.
Short-term travel insurance for one year is suitable for insurance of employees of the company, who have frequent short-term business travels during the year. Number of travels during the year may be unlimited but duration of one travel can not exceed 45 consecutive days. Such travel insurance contract for one year is entered into with the employer for any period of 365 days either in respect of each employee individually or as a single insurance contract in which all the particular persons are included. In both cases each insured person receives an individual plastic card as a proof of valid travel insurance.
Open travel insurance for one year is an insurance contract entered into between the insurer and a company on purchase of certain number of travel days for the period of one year without specification of particular persons. The total number of travel days is agreed before entering into the insurance contract, basing upon the planned number of business travel days of the company during the subsequent period of 365 days. Depending on the terms and conditions of the insurance contract, an authorized representative of the company informs the insurer by fax or e-mail on business travels of employees either before each individual trip or once a month/quarter on business travels of the previous period of time. But the insurer registers the travel days.
