The first “Pohjola Open 2011” Golf Tournament will be opened at the Reiņa Track Golf Course on May 14. It will be held in ten rounds. Tournament form - Stroke Net (9 holes) for ladies and gentlemen separately. Both experienced players and beginners are invited to the tournament. Players will compete in five groups with different handicap levels, depending on their playing skills.
The subsequent selection rounds of the Tournament will be held on May 28, June 4 and 11, July 2, 10 and 30, August 13 and 27, and September 10. Closing time for entries is 12:00 o’clock on the previous day of each round. Maximum number of entrants – 36 persons.
Grand Final competition will be held on September 18. Tournament form - Stroke Net (18 holes). At least six players from each group will qualify for the final competition taking into account the five best results of participants in each selection round.
Prizes and cups as well as money prizes for the selection rounds and the final competition will be provided by the “Pohjola Finance” companies of the Pohjola Group and the Joint Stock Insurance Company “Seesam Latvia”. The total Prize Fund is 5000 Euros.
Nearest the pin-hole 9 prize will be a special event of both the selection rounds and the final competition – those participants of the tournament who with the first shot will get the ball closest to the hole will receive special prizes of the Insurance Company “Seesam Latvia”.
The last round of the competition on September 18 - the last day of the “Pohjola Open” Tournament – will be followed by award ceremony and gala dinner.
Organizers of the event, inviting to participate in the tournament everyone who enjoys a golf, want to remind of the golf etiquette, observance of which is the key condition to ensure that this game would bring pleasure and real satisfaction to all those taking part and watching. Even excellent golf skills do not release any player from observance of the strong rules of the etiquette. One of the key requirements of the etiquette is that any golfer must respect the other players' interests and be obliged to take care of his/her own safety and safety of other players and spectators. A very important requirement is to preserve and take care of the green area.
Caring for the area includes a choice of suitable footwear –only specific golf shoes or sneakers are permitted for persons entering a golf course.
The golf etiquette determines also a certain dress code which does not allow playing golf being dressed in our usual “democratic holiday clothing” – T-shirt and jeans. This applies both to ladies and gentlemen.

Reiņa Track is owned by the Farm “Kalnzaķi”. A nine-hole golf course with a driving range was opened here on July 18, 2010. Total length of the golf course of Reiņa Track is only 1.6 km, but in this PAR 30 course there are large variations in terrain and an interesting location of greens as well as very beautiful landscape in general.
Golf is one of the world's most popular sports. In recent years, the number of golf players and fans is growing also in Latvia. Popularity of golf in the world is evidenced by the fact that this game after more than 100 years of interruption is again returned to the Olympic sport and will be included in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016. The previous Olympic medals in golf were won in the St. Louis Summer Olympic Games in the United States in 1904.
