JSIC “Seesam Latvia” has started insurance of travellers also against natural cataclysms

Eighteen months ago, the eruptions of the Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano caused chaos in global air traffic and caused damage to many travellers. Recently there has been suggested that in the near future Katla - the biggest and most dangerous volcano in Iceland - could become more active, as in the historical context eruption of this volcano followed eruptions of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

So far, the Latvian insurance company travel insurance policies did not provide the insurer's liability for damages caused by natural disasters. Now, upon purchase of a travel insurance policy of JSIC “Seesam Latvia”, it will be able to protect yourself from losses that could be caused by natural cataclysms. .

Travellers can take out insurance against risks caused by activated volcanoes

News received from Iceland today regarding activity of the Grimsvotn volcano, are pleasant for travellers, because the eruption has subsided. But geologists say that there is no reason to declare that volcanic activity has completely ceased. This means that resumption of the volcanic activity is not excluded, which might result in formation of new smoke and dust clouds, which, in turn, might cause cancellation of flights, as it was in the European airspace yesterday and today.

Thursdays, the 13th are more dangerous for drivers than the “Black Fridays”

It can be said that the year of 2011 is merciful to superstitious people, who pay special attention to the 13th days, because we have only one “Black Friday” this year. However, looking through few closest years we see that in 2012 and in 2015 we will have to survive even three “Black Fridays” in each of the years. In general, years having three “Black Fridays”, are not so frequent – the next year having three “Black Fridays” will be only 2026. Statistically more frequent are years with two “Black Fridays”, and a year having no “Black Fridays” is impossible.

Both number of motorcyclists and their degree of caution while riding motorcycle is increasing

Statistics of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate show that the number of registered vehicles in Latvia is decreasing each month; for example, the number of registered cars in March of this year declined by more than 23.5 thousand. But the number of registered motorcycles and tricycles is gradually increasing. On March 1 there were 16,786 registered motorcycles and tricycles in Latvia but on the first of April there were already 16,871 motorcycles and tricycles. 8690 of them had valid technical inspection certificate, and 3198 were insured. For comparison: on the first of March 8571 motorcycles and tricycles had valid technical inspection certificate, and 1702 of them were insured. The fact that within one month the number of insured motorcycles and tricycles was nearly doubled can be explained quite simply – the motorcycle season has begun, and the official opening of the motorcycle season of this year took place on April 30.

Summarizing the results of 2010, Mr. Aigars Freimanis, Member of the Board of Directors of the Joint Stock Insurance Company “Seesam Latvia”, acknowledges that it was a complicated but in the same time also rather successful period of time for the company:

– The company was determined to strengthen its positionin the Latvian insurance market.
