Travel insurance


After the accident you should immediately, as soon as possible, but not later than in 30 (thirty) days report the accident to Seesam.

Attention! In case of travel annulment you have to inform the insurer prior to the planned travel start date.

How to receive an indemnity?

What documents are to be submitted in order to receive the indemnity?
  1. In case of the flight delay
    Filled-in claim application.
    A copy of the passport.
    Airline statement of the flight delay or cancellation.
    If you were moved to another flight, then a statement about the flight change and route should be submitted.
    Airline tickets.
    Receipts of additional expenses, which have occurred due to the flight delay/ cancellation.
     
  2. In case of the baggage delay
    Filled-in claim application.
    A copy of the passport.
    Airport statement of  the baggage delay/damage/loss and compensation payment if any
    Airline tickets and baggage claim checks.
    Cash receipts confirming the purchase of goods.
     
  3. In case of damage to the baggage
    Filled-in claim application.
    A copy of the passport.
    Airport statement of  the baggage delay/damage/loss and compensation payment if any.
    Airline tickets and baggage claim checks.
    A photo of the baggage bags/ suitcases (if it is impossible to take a photo, you can bring the damaged bag/ suitcase to Seesam).
    Statement from the repair service about the condition of the bag/ suitcase.
    If the bag  can not be repaired(and it is confirmed by the repair service), then the cash receipts for the purchase of  a similar bag/ suitcase.
     
  4. In case of the baggage loss
    Filled-in claim application.
    A copy of the passport.
    Airport statement of  the baggage delay/damage/loss and compensation payment if any.
    Airport statement of  the baggage delay.
    Airline tickets and baggage claim checks.
     
  5. In case of the travel cancellation
    Filled-in claim application.
    A copy of the passport.
    Statement from the travel agency about the planned travel specifying whether or not the travel company will compensate the costs.
    Documents confirming the validity of the travel cancellation reason (doctor's certificate of sudden illness, a medical certificate for the first degree relative's sudden illness, a police statement about a road traffic accident in which the insured person has got an injury, etc.).
How to submit additional documents in an already registered case?
  • The aforesaid documents may be scanned and sent to us to the following e-mail address: travel@seesam.lv
  • If you want to submit the documents in person you may do it at any of our customer service centres.
What to do if an insured event occurs while you are travelling?

If costs for the medical assistance have occurred

  • If you have medical problems, immediately search for a medical help.
  • Follow the instructions of health professionals.
  • In the event of an illness or injury contact Seesam by 24h phone line +371 67 06 10 00. The operator will contact you with the specialists of Assistance Service. Follow the instruction given by the specialists of the Assistance Service.
  • Remember to show your EHIC card at the medical authority.
  • Keep the extracts from the medical records, invoices for services received and receipts issued to you. After travel submit all these documents to Assistance Service or Seesam.
  • If after an accident it shall be necessary to take you home (pursuant to the recommendations of medical staff), the Assistance Service will organize the repatriation but Seesam will cover the costs of the repatriations.

If your baggage is delayed

  • In an even of the baggage delay turn to the airport staff and request a statement on the baggage delay and immediately also requesting the compensation from the airline. When you receive the delayed baggage, ask from the carrier to state the date and time when the baggage has been made available to you.
  • If the baggage is delayed for more than 4 (four) hours and you need to purchase basic necessities of hygiene items as well as clothing for personal use suitable for the relevant climate to replace the belongings in the delayed baggage, you will be able to receive the compensation of newly purchased items.
  • Keep receipts for additional expenses and the statements received.
  • Submit the receipts and statements to Seesam within 30 (thirty) day after returning to Latvia.

Primarily the compensation is to be paid by the airline. If the costs arisen to the client exceed the amount paid by the airline, the difference is compensated by the Insurer. If the client has not received the compensation from the airline then it is fully paid by the Insurer taking into account the limit stated in the policy.
If the baggage is delayed when the client has returned to Latvia, no compensation is paid.

If your flight has been cancelled or shortly delayed

  • Find out how long it could take for an airline to ensure that you can continue the trip.
  • Request the airline to issue the statement on the flight delay and on the amount of the compensation paid or the statement on the refusal to pay the compensation.
  • If your flight is cancelled or the flight is delayed for more than 4 (four) hours, Seesam will reimburse the expenses:
    - for meals, hotel and/or transport from the airport to a hotel and back;
    - for purchase of another, new, flight ticket or ticket of other type of transport (in the amount of 50 (fifty) % of a ticket price), that has been purchased by the Insured to continue the travel instead of the shortly delayed or cancelled flight in order to continue the trip with other flight or other mean of transport.

If the client has not received the compensation from the airline then it is fully paid by the Insurer taking into account the limit stated in the policy.

If at the final destination of your travel you find out that your baggage is damaged

  • Immediately (after landing) turn to the airport baggage department and submit a claim regarding the baggage damage.
  • Ask a statement or approval from an airline or airport on the damage of the baggage. This document should indicate the amount of the compensation paid or also on a refusal to pay the compensation.
  • If you submit your damaged baggage for repair keep the documents confirming the payments you have made for repair services.
  • If you have purchased other, equal items instead of the damaged baggage items, keep payment documents regarding these items.
  • Create a list of the damaged items by indicating the approximate value of the damaged items. Submit this list to Seesam with the photos of the damaged items and repair and/or item replacement payment documents within 30 (thirty) days after the travel.

If at the final destination of the travel you find out that the baggage is lost

  • Request a statement or confirmation from the airline or airport on the loss of the baggage. This document should indicate the amount of the compensation paid or also on a refusal to pay the compensation.
  • After the travel submit to Seesam the list of the items lost, documents on the items purchased replacing the items lost (if it has been done), as well as the statement issued by the airline confirming the fact of the baggage loss. This document should indicate the amount of the compensation paid or also on a refusal to pay the compensation.

Primarily the compensation is to be paid by the airline. If the costs arisen to the client exceed the amount paid by the airline, the difference is compensated by the Insurer. If the client has not received the compensation from the airline then it is fully paid by the Insurer taking into account the limit stated in the policy.

If your baggage and/or sports equipment have been stolen

  • Inform the local police immediately on the baggage theft and ask police to issue a statement to you confirming the fact of the baggage theft.
  • The Insurer will compensate you the expenses for purchases made to replace the stolen baggage items.
  • Keep the receipt for the purchase of the replacing items and/or rental of sports equipment.
  • Within 30 (thirty) days after returning to Latvia submit the receipts and police statement to Seesam.

If you are late for the connecting flight (transit)

  • Request the statement from the airline on the reason and duration of the flight delay. This document should indicate the amount of the compensation paid or also on a refusal to pay the compensation.
  • Keep the documents confirming the payments of re-ticketing or purchase of a new ticket as well as receipts for hotels at the transit points if there is a necessity for a delay in order to continue to travel.
  • Within 30 (thirty) days after returning to Latvia submit the receipts and other documents confirming the payments to Seesam.

If your travel is cancelled while you are in Latvia or your home country

  • As soon as it is actually possible it is necessary to inform Seesam on the fact of the travel cancellation while the Insured is still in the territory of the home country and has not started to travel. If the travel cancellation has happened due to personal reasons then it is necessary to inform Seesam on the cancellation fact at least 72 (seventy-two) hours prior to the start of the travel.
  • Immediately cancel previously booked flight and hotel bookings as well as other bookings related to the planned travel.
  • If the travel package or individual tourism services have been purchased from a travel agency then it is necessary to inform this travel agency on what has happened also requesting a statement for unused and regained travel expenses.
  • Keep all documents and documents confirming payments related to the planned travel.

If your travel has been stopped

  • Keep the documents on the ticket re-registration, purchase of new tickets and/or rental of a passenger car.
  • Keep the documents on previously booked and paid hotel days that were not used.
  • Within 30 (thirty) days after returning to Latvia submit the receipts and other documents confirming the payments to Seesam.

If a passport, eID card, driver’s licence and/or payment card have been stolen or lost

  • Immediately inform local police on theft or loss of the person’s documents.
  • You need to refer to the nearest Diplomatic mission or consular department of the Republic of Latvia. In case of emergency you may receive the information on what to do by calling to 24h phone line +371 26 33 77 11 to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
  •  Keep the documents confirming payments for receiving of ID documents issued to you for returning to your home country.
  • Keep documents confirming payments for phone calls, for economic class transport trips to and from the official government institutions, for hotel as well as economic class transport ticket for return if you are not able to return from the travel to the home country in a planned time due to document loss of theft.
  • Within 30 (thirty) days after returning to Latvia submit the receipts and other documents confirming the payments to Seesam.

If unintentionally loss has been caused to the third party

  • At the place where it has happened, it is necessary to write an explanation on what has happened and what were the conditions of the event. This explanation needs to be signed by both you and the person or the representative of the company to whom you caused the loss.
  • It is recommended to find and to invite any independent witness, asking this person to write own explanation on what he/she have seen.
  • In case of a necessity to inform police on what has happened as well as to ask the police to issue the statement on the event and its conditions.
  • It would preferable to get as many documents as possible stating the information on the event conditions – explanations, request of a compensation, statements of the corresponding institutions, documents proving the occurring of the insured event, etc.
  • Immediately as soon as it is actually possible to inform Seesam on the even that has taken place and also to try to observe the instructions of Seesam on the further actions.
  • Seesam suggests not to give any promises to the third party as well as not to write any agreement on the accident, if the Insurer has not given the agreement to do so.
